14/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - The President of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament, Hand-Gert Poettering, paid tribute to the group's former President (as well as former Belgian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and President of the EPP from 1976 to 1985) Leo Tindemans on the occasion of his 80t birthday. The vision of the 1975 Tindemans Report on the transformation of the European Community into the European Union, drawn up at the request of the EU heads of state and government, may now find its place in the European Convention, said the CDU member. On that occasion, the EPP-ED group handed Mr. Tindemans a book entitled "Leo Tindemans - the European", with a preface by Hans-Gert Poettering and contributions, in particular, by Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, former European Commission President Jacques Santer, former EP President Jose Maria Gil-Robles and former MEP Otto van Habsburg.
