Brussels, 14/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, European Commissioner Michel Barnier unveiled an EU cross-border co-operation programme between Belgium and the Netherlands ("Grensregio Vlaanderen-Nederland) to be financed by the INTERREG III A Community Initiative, for provinces with a combined population of around 9 million people. The programme provides EUR 84.2 million in financial support from the EU out of the EUR l74.8 million funding for the regions of West Flanders, East Flanders, Antwerp and Limburg in Belgium and Zealand, Northern-Brabant and Limburg in the Netherlands. Some 250 organisations and 300 companies will be involved in the programme, which will also include social and cultural actions. The key priorities are developing infrastructure, promoting economic, scientific and technological co-operation, improving the environment, qualifications and the labour market and promoting social integration.
