Brussels, 14/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 13 May, the presidents and ministers of ten regional governments in six Member States (Italy, France, Germany, the UK, Belgium and Sweden) presented the European Regional Affairs Commissioner, Michel Barnier, with the Common Declaration on European Governance adopted in response to the European Commission's White Paper on European Governance. The participating regions are Aquitaine (Alain Rousset), Hessen (Roland Koch), Marche (Vito D'Ambrosio), Scotland (Jack McConnell), Skane (Carl Sonesson), Tuscany (Claudio Martini), Flanders (Paul Van Grembergen), Wallonia (Jean-Claude van Cauwenberghe), Wales (Rhodri Morgan) and Emilia-Romagna (Vasco Errani). At their meeting with the Commissioner, the politicians stressed the necessity for regions to be more involved in drawing up EU policies and the need to reduce and simplify EU legislation.
