ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) broadcasting

VIA DIGITAL, satellite TV subsidiary of Spain's TELEFONICA, is planning to merge with CANALSATELITE DIGITAL, controlled by SOGECABLE (member of Spain's PRISA group). If the competition authorities allow the deal to go through (estimated at a value of EUR 500 million) whereby VIA DIGITAL will be absorbed by SOGECABLE, the merged company will have 2.8 million subscribers.
