Embargo to be decreed on import of all products of animal origin from China

Brussels, 25/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - The representatives of the Member States, meeting within the Standing Veterinary Committee (SVC), decided on Friday in favour of a Commission proposal aimed at banning all imports of products of animal origin from China into the Union. This decision, which the Commission will formally ratify in the coming days, was taken on the basis of a report handed in end-November by Community inspectors of the Food ad Veterinary Office (FVO).
