ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) tobacco

Franco-Spanish group ALTADIS has made a bid for the acquisition of 100% of the world's fourth largest cigarette company, German REEMTSMA, currently held at 75.1% by the German coffee distributor, TCIBO, and at 24.9% by the Reemtsma family. Estimated at EUR 5 and 7 billion, REEMTSMA also attracts interest from British IMPERIAL TOBACCO and GALLAHER and from JAPAN TOBACCO.
