The French VIVENDI UNIVERSAL will takeover ET - ELEKTRIM TELEKOMUNIKACJA, the largest Polish mobile telephone operator, and the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. In fact, VIVENDI UNIVERSAL will acquire, for EUR 100 million, 2% of ET, thus becoming the majority shareholder with 51% of this subsidiary of the ELEKTRIM group, itself a majority shareholder in the largest Polish mobile telephone operator PTC. Through this agreement, VIVENDI will also take control of fixed line telephony activities and the subsidiaries specialised in the Internet of ELEKTRIM, which will be attached to ET in exchange for a payment to the Polish group of EUR 490 million. This operation announces the victory of the French over DEUTSCHE TELEKOM also interested in ET (see EI of 14&15 May).
