According to the Committee, to succeed with enlargement, account has to be taken of the social effects of transformation process in candidate countries

Brussels, 02/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - It is with her sensitiveness as a cross-border citizen that Eva Belabed (workers group), on a visit to Linz (Austria), 30 km from the Czech border, presented to the Economic and Social Committee (ESC) an own-initiative opinion on "The employment and social situation in the central and eastern European applicant States". This opinion was adopted unanimously by the ESC plenary end-April.
