Brussels, 28/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - The EP plenary session, next week, will be the opportunity to make an assessment of the Stockholm European Council (Wednesday) and to question the Council and Commission with regards to the prospects for the European satellite navigation system Galileo (see, in our special edition of 26 March, point 41 of Swedish Presidency conclusions). On Tuesday, the work will be mainly dedicated to budgetary issues: guidelines for the 2002 budget and discharge for the implementation of the budget in 1998 and 1999 (see summaries of main report in yesterday's EUROPE pages 13 and 14, and further in this bulletin). Also on Wednesday, the Parliament should discuss the delicate issue of public access to the documents of European institutions (see EUROPE of 21 March, p.4, concerning the Council decision on confidentiality, and of 23 March, over Parliament/Council dialogue on framework regulation that should in principal be adopted before next 1 March). Furthermore, the EP will have its annual debate with the Council and Commission on the freedoms, security and justice area. Finally, on Thursday, the European Commission will make a statement on the encouragement of the production of plant proteins (see EUROPE of 19/20 March, p.12, concerning the recent Commission report).
