SMEs call for reforms to be speeded up

Brussels, 28/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Small Business Alliance (ESBA) launched, on Tuesday, an appeal to EU Member States to accelerate reform in favour of the entrepreneurial spirit in Europe. It considers the current efforts by the EU Member States insufficient "although the Stockholm Summit shows that important progress has been made over the last year to achieve the strategic goal as set in Lisbon". SMEs call for a "more ambitious programme" to implement the European Charter for SMEs. They also advocate "clear improvements in key areas such as the business environment, education and entrepreneurship, taxation, and financial matters". ESBA recently published a series of proposals in its "Millennium Declaration".
