The American group JOHNSON & JOHNSON ($29.1 bn turnover in 2000) has begun talks in view of acquiring the Californian firm ALZA ($988 million turnover in 2000) through an share swap of a value of over $12 bn, valuing ALZA shares at between $42 and $48.
