Nicosia / Limassol, 27/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - George Vassilioui, Head of the Cypriot Delegation at EU membership negotiations (and former president of Cyprus) told the Greek press agency ANA that, during the negotiation session scheduled for 29 March in Brussels, it should be possible to close the chapter on the free movement of capital. "This means that the EU is satisfied with the explanations we have given with regard to the way we control money laundering", he told the press.
The EU/Cyprus Joint Parliamentary Committee, co-chaired by Mechthild Rothe and Tassos Papadoupoulos, heard on 26 March in Limassol the Cypriot Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kassoulides, who repeated that the Greek Cypriots are ready to take part at any moment in the UN-led proximity talks but that they do not accept any change in the basis of the talks so that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash returns to the negotiating table.
