Opening of United Kingdom-France interconnector, at time of acceleration of liberalisation of electricity market

Brussels, 12/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - Whereas Loyola de Palacio, Commissioner responsible for energy, has to present a deadline on Tuesday for the complete liberalisation of the gas and electricity markets (see page 12), the managers of the submarine cable linking the United Kingdom to France have agreed to open access to the infrastructures used to carry electric energy between the two countries.

The only submarine interconnector between the United Kingdom and France has a total capacity...
