Agreement between European Commission, FIFA and UEFA over transfer of football players reconciles "specific nature of sport" with respect of Community principles

Brussels, 06/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - Monday evening, the European Commission was able to mark its agreement on the principles that will govern the new FIFA regulations (Association of Federations of world football) on the international transfers of football players. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) took part in the talks, for which the final phase took place at the level of European Commissioners (Monti, Reding and Diamantopoulou) and the Presidents of FIFA and UEFA.
