Commission considers guarantees granted to German State banks to be State aid

Brussels, 26/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has just sent a letter to the German authorities in which is states that it considers the guarantees - Anstaltslast and Gewahrtragerhaftung - granted to German States banks to constitute State aid and are as a result incompatible with Community law. This letter constitutes the first stage of the normal procedure for bringing existing aid schemes in line with this law. Today the ball is in the German court, which has four months...
