26/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - According to figures published by the Government and reported in the press, last year the United Kingdom overtook Germany as the favourite EU destination country for asylum-seekers. Thus, The Times says that, in 2000, some 97,000 asylum-seekers (including their families) arrived in the United Kingdom, compared to 78,654 in Germany.
