26/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council has adopted a decision relating to the signing of an agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Iceland and the Kingdom of Norway on criteria and mechanisms determining the State responsible for examining a request for asylum presented in a Member State or in Iceland or Norway. This agreement, which the Commission negotiated with Norway and Iceland, on the whole takes on board the obligations and rights contained in the Dublin Convention (Member State responsible for examining a request for asylum) and the Eurodac regulation (collection and comparison of the fingerprints of asylum seekers and some other foreigners in view of the correct application of the Dublin Convention).
