ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) telecommunications

Spanish and Finnish telecommunications operators, TELEFÓNICA and SONERA, have acquired 49% of the Italian consortium IPSE 2000. They joined forces to win licenses for UMTS mobile telephony in Italy. TELEFÓNICA will head the consortium with 30% of the capital while SONERA will acquire the remaining 19%. The other shareholders, BANCA DI ROMA and ALTANET (ACEA, FIAT and IFIL groups) will each hold 19%.
