EU denounces "manoeuvre" by Slobodan Milosevic to stay in power and reiterates its support for the Serb opposition

Brussels, 28/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The French Presidency, acting on behalf of the European Union, has released the following statement (unofficial translation). "The simultaneous holding of presidential and legislative elections in FRY and local elections in Serbia, on 24 September next, confirms the manoeuvre by Milosevic to stay in power. The European Union continues to call for democratic and peaceful change in Belgrade: nothing is possible as long as a regime like Milosevic's stays...
