Agreement by the Fifteen on catalogue of components of future European rapid reaction force

Brussels, 28/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Interim Military Committee, the predecessor to the future European Military Staff, reached agreement on Thursday on the catalogue of ground, air and naval components of the rapid reaction force of 50,000 to 60,000 troops, expected to be at the European Union's disposal by 2003. This catalogue detailing the entire structure in terms of staff and equipment, responds to the objective of a force that can be deployed in under 60 days and will be capable of remaining on site for more than a year, which requires rotations amongst a total staff of 180,000. This catalogue has been forwarded, along with a questionnaire, to all Member States, to enable them to determine their contribution to the European force with a view to the capability commitment conference to be held on 20-21 November in Paris.
