European Union calls on WTO panel to examine dispute between United States which opposes Bacardi to Pernod Ricard regarding Havana Club trade name

Brussels / Geneva, 03/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - After fruitless consultation, the European Union called on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to form a panel to settle the so-called "Havana Club" dispute with the United States. The subject of the dispute is Section 211 of the US 1998 finance law which restricts the rights of foreign companies to hold American trade names, by imposing on them "discriminatory obligations which are in contradiction with international intellectual property...
