25/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) announced, on Wednesday 24 June, that two suspects had been detained in Poland in an investigation into suspected fraud involving Poland’s Clean Air Programme. The damage is estimated at nearly €795,000, involving approximately €628,000 in European Union funds. The two individuals are suspected of having misled more than 40 homeowners, as well as the authorities responsible for managing the funds, between April 2023 and January 2025. According to the EPPO, the subsidised work was not carried out, or was carried out only partially, with the funds having been diverted for personal benefit. Searches were carried out at the suspects’ homes and digital evidence was seized. They were released after questioning, were required to provide a financial guarantee and remain under police supervision. (NP)
