25/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Union and India held their 12th Human Rights Dialogue, on Wednesday 24 June in New Delhi. The meeting followed their bilateral summit last January, which strengthened their strategic partnership based on democracy and the rule of law. The two sides exchanged views on civil, political and religious freedoms, with particular emphasis on the rights of minorities, migrants and children, as well as the protection of civil society and journalists. The EU reiterated its firm opposition to the death penalty, while India defended recognition of the right to development “as a distinct, universal, inalienable and fundamental human right”. Lastly, the partners undertook to promote “human-centric” artificial intelligence and to step up their cooperation within United Nations multilateral bodies by their next meeting, in 2027.
