25/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 25 June, members on the COTER Commission within the Committee of the Regions (CoR) adopted a draft opinion (https://aeur.eu/f/mk8 ) on the ‘automotive package’, in which they call for the EU’s investments in industrial capacities, battery production, innovation, and regional automotive ecosystems to be increased while promoting a ‘Made in the EU’ approach. Supporting the goal of electrification, the COTER Commission emphasised the need to make electric vehicles affordable, to expand the network of charging points, and to provide targeted support to the least favoured regions. Members also adopted a draft opinion on developing a sustainable and interconnected European transport system, stressing that certain regions suffer from structural underinvestment. In addition, the question of electrifying the fleet of vehicles was debated in the ‘Environment’ Council this Thursday (see EUROPE 13896/4). (JV)
