European Disability Forum is concerned about effects of ‘AI Omnibus’ on fundamental rights

Brussels, 25/06/2026 (Agence Europe)The European Disability Forum (EDF) argues that the amendments proposed to the European Artificial Intelligence Act by the draft ‘AI Omnibus’ weaken several fundamental rights safeguards, in an information note published on 23 June, which analyses the main changes made to the Artificial Intelligence Act adopted in 2024.

According to the EDF, these amendments would give greater weight to business interests and reduce the safeguards offered to the persons concerned. The organisation also points to the expansion of the possibilities for processing sensitive personal data in order to detect and correct bias in artificial intelligence systems, including without the consent of the persons concerned in certain situations.

In addition, the EDF notes that bodies responsible for combating discrimination would lose their direct access to certain information held by providers of AI systems.

It is also concerned about the postponement of the obligations applicable to high-risk artificial intelligence systems, as well as the easing of requirements relating to users’ command of AI.
