24/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 24 March, the EU Council formally rejected the European Parliament’s second-reading position on the revision of air passenger rights. Following the decision taken the previous week (see EUROPE 13831/19), the EU Council waited until the negotiation meeting on Monday 23 March (trilogue) (see EUROPE 13834/1) to finalise the procedure and sent its letter of rejection. The six-week countdown to the start of the formal conciliation has therefore begun, in accordance with Article 294(10) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU). However, the technical work will continue until conciliation, scheduled for late May/early June. A second formal meeting, possibly in the form of a trilogue, is scheduled for around 20 April. (AD)
