Representatives of French and Spanish companies, the Mouvement des entreprises de France (MEDEF) and the Confederación española de organizaciones empresariales (CEOE), issued a joint statement, on Monday 23 March, at the fifth France-Spain Economic Forum, calling for European leaders to “accelerate the completion of the single market, support investment and innovation, strengthen industrial and energy sovereignty and develop international strategic partnerships”.
Efforts to deepen and eliminate barriers in the single market must be accompanied by a strengthening of measures (at European, national, regional and local levels) to ease administrative constraints and facilitate investment, particularly in the industrial, energy and strategic infrastructure sectors in order to accelerate investment projects, with a particular focus on SMEs, they write.
“The Industrial Accelerator Act sets out the way forward for authorising projects in industry, technology and connectivity much more quickly, thereby facilitating investment. Moreover, we believe that the European 28th regime would offer European businesses (especially startups) a single, harmonised legal framework across the EU, reducing administrative and regulatory barriers between countries”.
The two employers’ associations believe that there is an urgent need for secure and competitive decarbonised energy and “an efficient and competitive European electricity market, preserving the marginal cost pricing mechanism while continuing to develop long-term signals”.
