05/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 4 March, Member States’ permanent representatives to the EU (Coreper) approved their negotiating position on the proposed revision of the directives on the road pricing structure for heavy-duty vehicles with trailers based on these trailers’ CO2 emission class (see EUROPE 13821/6). They do not want to reduce road charges for heavy goods vehicles equipped with more sustainable trailers—wishing to avoid potentially adding to the administrative burden, increasing the complexity of the toll pricing structure, and potentially impacting the introduction of electronic toll services. They felt that the proposed trailer categories could have led to a reduction in tolls, even when combined with less modern trucks that emit more CO2.
