EU Council approves trade agreement’s safeguard clause

05/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 5 March, the Council of the EU approved the safeguard clause built into the free trade agreement with Mercosur countries (Partnership Agreement and Interim Trade Agreement), incorporating safeguards when imports from Mercosur partners threaten to cause serious injury to EU producers (see EUROPE B13805A7).
