European Container Glass Federation welcomes industrial acceleration plan, but wants urgent action on energy prices

05/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 5 March, the European Container Glass Federation (FEVE) welcomed the recognition of glass manufacturing as a strategic industrial sector and the simplification of permitting procedures for energy-intensive industry decarbonisation projects.  The objective proposed by the Industrial Accelerator Act (see EUROPE 13821/1), namely to ensure that the manufacturing sector accounts for at least 20% of EU GDP by 2035, “sends an important signal of renewed industrial ambition. However, urgent action on multiple fronts is needed to get there and safeguard the competitiveness of the industry”. While the proposal “is a step in the right direction, we need bolder action to lower energy prices, boost grids development and simplify rules to maintain our competitive edge”. (SP)
