05/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – The first meeting of the committee of experts on the protection of minors online was finally held on Thursday 5 March in the presence of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. As expected, the experts addressed the risks associated with children being online, through games, messaging applications or artificial intelligence, and the responsibility of technology companies in designing their networks (age-appropriate design, addictive features and algorithms). The committee is co-chaired by Maria Melchior, Director of the French Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) in Paris, and Professor Jörg M. Fegert, Director of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Centre in Ulm. The committee is due to meet periodically until the summer. (IS)
