05/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – As of Thursday 5 March, 10 Member States - Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovakia and Austria - have activated the ‘rescEU’ civil protection mechanism to coordinate repatriation efforts at European level for EU citizens affected by the war in the Middle East (see EUROPE 13820/19). Through the European Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), the European Commission is helping to coordinate logistically flights offered by the Member States and remains in contact with the EU delegations and consular authorities of the Member States in the region. The EU can cover up to 75% of the financial costs when a repatriation flight offers at least 30% of the seats available to citizens of other Member States. It can also book flights when a country does not receive support from other EU countries. In this case, it can cover 100% of the costs. (MB)
