04/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – Ahead of International Women’s Day, the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) published a report on Wednesday 4 March giving a mixed picture of equality between women and men on the labour market in the European Union. While progress has been made, such as the adoption of new directives on pay transparency, work-life balance and women’s representation on boards of directors, analysis of the labour markets shows that many gaps remain, particularly in terms of job participation, working time, occupational segregation and pay and pension differentials. The report also warns that economic crises, the digital transition and budgetary pressure could exacerbate these inequalities at a time when European priorities are increasingly focused on economic competitiveness.
