Council of Europe’s Committee for Prevention of Torture calls on Greece to reform its prisons

In a report on Greece published on Wednesday 4 March, the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) once again condemns the conditions observed in January 2025 in seven prisons for men and two for women.

However, these serious structural problems should be taken into account by the Greek authorities in their ‘2025-2030 Action Plan for the recovery of the prison system’, point out the Council of Europe experts.
