Brussels, 23/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 23 February, the EU Council adopted its negotiating position (‘general approach’) on a proposal authorising Austria to amend its bilateral agreement with Switzerland on road transport (see EUROPE 13809/9). The amendment to this agreement, signed in 1958, would enable cabotage operations to be carried out in border regions for passenger bus and coach services between the two countries. This would enable passengers, particularly the many commuters travelling in both directions every day, to be catered for, strengthening cross-border connectivity. Cabotage operations would be strictly limited to the administrative districts of Bludenz, Bregenz, Dornbirn and Feldkirch in the Vorarlberg region, and to the Landeck district in the Tyrol region. The European Parliament still has to define its position before negotiations can begin. Read the general approach: https://aeur.eu/f/kr6 (AD)
