Brussels, 23/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 23 February, the High Representative of the Union, Kaja Kallas, announced that she would be proposing the lifting of sanctions against Venezuela’s interim President, Delcy Rodriguez. “We’ll see if we can reach a consensus. We don’t know anything at the moment. The proposal has not yet been formulated”, she explained at the end of the Foreign Affairs Council. On his arrival, the Spanish Minister, José Manuel Albares, called for these sanctions to be lifted. The High Representative highlighted certain advances made by the interim authorities, such as the release of European political prisoners who were being held in Venezuela. “We are currently discussing, and will discuss in the future, our new approach to Venezuela. (...) We could define benchmarks for our expectations of the country so that we can also take action on our side”, she added. (CG)
