EU Member States have launched around a hundred national and regional initiatives to attract global talent

30/01/26 (Agence Europe)The number of national and regional initiatives aimed at strengthening Europe’s position as a destination of choice for the global research talent have now reached an impressive 101, the European Commission announced on Friday 30 January. Representing approximately €1 billion in funding opportunities, these initiatives complement the ‘Choose Europe for Science’ initiative launched by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in May 2025 (see EUROPE 13631/10). The initiative aims to foster a dynamic research environment, supported by almost €900 million of European funding available through calls for applications from international researchers wishing to continue or advance their careers in Europe. Applications for Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowships have also increased by 65% over the past year. (AD)
