30/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – The EU Heads of State or Government will discuss the proposed 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) at their regular meetings in March, June, October and December. An extraordinary European summit could also be held on 26 and 27 November, with the aim of reaching a political agreement on this issue by the end of 2026, as called for by the President of the European Council, António Costa. The Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU is responsible for presenting an updated ‘negotiating box’ with initial indicative figures to the June European Council meeting (see EUROPE 13780/8). Also on the agenda for meetings of European leaders in 2026 will be Russian military aggression against Ukraine, internal and external economic competitiveness, with the ‘retreat’ on Thursday 12 February (see EUROPE 13798/3), EU enlargement, with the hoped-for finalisation of accession negotiations with Montenegro, and the migration policy.
