30/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – Following the negotiations held on Wednesday 28 January at the level of the Member States’ ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper), the Cyprus Presidency was due to transmit a new compromise text on the future loan to Ukraine, worth €90 billion for 2026 and 2027, with a view to a Coreper meeting that will take place on Monday 2 February, as the meeting of Friday 30 January did not in the end take place. One of the questions on the table concerns a potential ex-ante financial contribution from third countries benefiting from purchases of military equipment by Ukraine and supported by the EU’s Ukraine support loan. We believe it is necessary for “the interests and risks” to be taken into account by third countries, said a European diplomatic source. According to another, the European Commission has no objection to third countries contributing financially. (MB)
