DSA - qualified researchers now have free rein to request access to data from major online platforms

29/10/2025 (Agence Europe)The rules of the Digital Services Act (DSA) on access to data for researchers have been in force since Wednesday 29 October, with the official entry into force of the delegated act on access to data. These measures should enable qualified researchers to request access to data from very large online platforms, specific to the platforms and the operation of their systems (recommendations, algorithms, etc.) in order to understand the potential systemic risks arising from them. Access to this data should also help to combat risks such as the dissemination of illegal content and financial fraud. To gain access to platform data, researchers will have to submit their profile and research projects to the DSA national coordinators for assessment. In the event of validation by the authorities, platforms are legally bound to comply with their requests. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
