Pets are not excluded from the concept of ‘baggage’, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled in a judgment handed down on Thursday 16 October (case C-218/24).

In Spain, a passenger has asked the Iberia airline to compensate her for the moral harm she suffered after losing her dog on a flight from Buenos Aires to Barcelona.

At the time of check-in, she had not made a special declaration of interest in delivery concerning the baggage, in return for payment. According to...
