‘REPowerEU’ - large majority in European Parliament committee to open negotiations with EU Council

On Thursday 16 October, members of European Parliament’s Committees on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and International Trade (INTA) adopted the report by Ville Niinistö (Greens/EFA, Finnish) and Inese Vaidere (EPP, Latvian) on ‘REPowerEU’ for a complete phase-out of Russian fossil fuels by 1 January 2027 (see EUROPE B13723A1), with 83 votes in favour, 9 against and one abstention.
