16/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent on Thursday 16 October, 131 European companies, investors and employers’ organisations called on the EU to set itself a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, in order to send “a vital signal of Europe’s continued commitment to climate neutrality and industrial leadership”. This call comes a week before the European Council and the discussion by European leaders on the 2040 target (see EUROPE 13730/10). The signatories state that Europe’s “predictable” climate and energy framework is “one of its greatest competitive assets”. They are also calling for accelerated electrification, supported by affordable, fossil-free energy and markets to stimulate the demand necessary for the development of clean technologies. The signatories include companies such as Volvo Cars, Fortum, Unilever, Aveva and the Danish Chamber of Commerce. To see the letter: https://aeur.eu/f/j03 (PLD)
