01/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 1 October, the European Union announced that it had seized around 112 million parcels of counterfeit goods, worth €3.8 billion, in 2024. According to a report by the European Commission and the European Union Intellectual Property Office, this is the second highest volume of counterfeit goods intercepted on record, after the peak in 2023 (152 million parcels). Despite the fall in gross figures, the value of the products rose sharply due to the types of goods intercepted: electronic cigarettes, vaping devices, software and luxury goods. According to the report, this upsurge can be explained by the explosion in online trade and platforms. The United Arab Emirates has entered the top three of countries of origin of counterfeit goods, alongside the “usual suspects” China and Turkey. See the report: https://aeur.eu/f/ipd (IS)
