European Commission introduces new mandatory guarantee notice for EU products

On Thursday 25 September, the European Commission announced the introduction of new labels for products on the European market, as well as a compulsory leaflet, designed to ensure uniform labelling and better information on consumers’ warranty rights.

This implementing regulation is part of the implementation of the Directive aimed at empowering consumers to act in favour of the green transition, which is due to come into force in September 2026.

The compulsory leaflet details the legal guarantee of at least two years on products sold in the EU, which is available to all European consumers.

The new label is intended for manufacturers who choose to offer a voluntary commercial guarantee of durability for a specific product, covering the whole product and not just one of its components, and for a period of more than two years.

Member States have until 27 March 2026 to transpose the directive into their national legislation. Once the directive is applicable, the guarantee label and instructions will be introduced on the market. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
