Following the agreement with EU, pessimism among American companies in Europe is decreasing, according to AmCham

On Friday 26 September, the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham) published a survey on the tariff agreement between the EU and the United States.

The survey included responses from 52 companies, all members of AmCham and operating in various sectors, expressing renewed optimism about trade relationships between the two parties. The prevailing pessimism “falls” from 89% to 46%, the survey found. A third of respondents now expect stability, and optimism “has increased tenfold” since the agreement, reaching 21%.

This new optimism does not completely erase the uncertainties in the sector. According to the survey, the vast majority of companies surveyed expect EU (56%) and US (60%) policies to have a “negative impact” on their European operations.

When asked about their priorities, respondents said that their top priority was “clear and rapid implementation of tariff reductions” on both sides. Next come non-tariff barriers (regulatory constraints related to CBAM or CS3D are cited) and strengthened cooperation with mutual recognition of standards.
