Eurojust - European Parliament votes to extend deadline for EU agency’s case management system

At their plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday 10 September, MEPs adopted by 634 votes to 4, with 29 abstentions, the report by Javier Zarzalejos (EPP, Spanish) aimed at amending the regulation on the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation, Eurojust. The text extends the deadline for setting up Eurojust’s new case management system by two years.

This system, introduced by a 2023 reform, will integrate the European Judicial Counter-Terrorism Register and strengthen Eurojust’s ability to identify links between cross-border proceedings, particularly relating to terrorism and serious crime.

Initially set for 1 December 2025, the new 1 December 2027 deadline should give Eurojust time to migrate data securely and check compatibility with other European systems.

The text specifies that Ireland and Denmark, in accordance with their specific protocols, are not taking part in adopting this regulation, which will enter into force twenty days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union and will be directly applicable in participating Member States.
