On Monday 25 August, the European Commission authorised €626 million in Danish aid to encourage landowners to convert agricultural land into forests.
The support will cover the costs of planting forests on agricultural land, the costs of maintaining forests and the costs associated with the loss of agricultural income. Additional compensation is provided when a forest becomes ‘untouched forest’, in return for the additional restrictions placed on this land.
