24/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – A spokesman for the European Commission said on Thursday 24 July that the EU was deeply concerned by the escalation of tensions between Thailand and Cambodia and called for a de-escalation of the conflict. “We urge Cambodia and Thailand to show restraint, resume dialogue through diplomatic channels and give priority to the safety of their people”, he said. Clashes broke out on the morning of Thursday 24 July near disputed ancient temples in the Thai province of Surin and the Cambodian province of Oddar Meanchey, leaving at least 12 people dead and 31 injured. Thailand initiated strikes against Cambodian military targets, while Cambodia launched artillery and rocket attacks. The conflict is rooted in the region’s colonial history, where several territories have been disputed for decades. (PLD)
