Ireland should consider introducing a 15% tax rate for all companies”, says MEP Pasquale Tridico

Ireland should consider introducing a 15% tax rate for all companies, not only big multinationals”, said Pasquale Tridico (The Left, Italian), chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC), on Wednesday 23 July.

During its visit to Dublin, the FISC Committee delegation discussed tax policies, the fight against tax evasion and tax simplification. On implementing the globally agreed 15% minimum corporate tax rate, Mr Tridico said he understood the risks to EU competitiveness of having two different tax systems in the EU and the US. However, he felt that a 15% tax rate for all companies would simplify the Irish tax system. “It would also help Ireland to diversify its revenue sources and not rely only on tax revenue from a small number of big companies”.

He also expressed concern that “Ireland still has higher outbound royalty payments than the rest of the EU combined”. (Original version in French by Anne Damiani)
